Request
for Military Personnel Records
Military personnel records can be used for proving
military service, or as a valuable tool in genealogical research. Most
veterans and their next-of-kin can obtain free copies of their DD Form
214 (Report of Separation) and other military and medical records
several ways.
Your
contribution to the VFW 2013 Year-End Campaign shows you care about our
country’s defenders. With your generosity, struggling veterans can:
• Fight for their hard-earned VA benefits.
• Get justice on Capitol Hill.
• Make it through tough times with emergency
financial assistance.
• Connect with educational opportunities.
Your tax-deductible donation is the
reason we can keep our promise to always be there for the selfless men
and women who answer our nation’s call. Thank you for honoring the
sacrifice of America’s veterans, service members and military families.
VFW Releases 2014 Legislative Priority Goals
The new priority goals include
advocating for advance funding for all Department of Veterans Affairs
programs; protecting quality of life programs for military veterans,
service members, retirees and their families; improving transition
assistance programs for separating service members and veterans; and
continued oversight and improvements to the VA disability claims system.
VFW Legislative Alert: Help Us Continue to Fight to Remove COLA Penalty
Congress passed a budget deal that
includes a provision that penalizes working age military retirees
younger than 62 by cutting a full one percent from future cost of living
adjustments (COLA). VFW calculates that a Gunnery Sergeant or Sergeant
First Class (E-7) with 20 years of service would lose more than $80,000
in income by age 62. This also unfairly punishes those who have been
medically retired as a result of their wounds defending our nation. This
is totally unacceptable and will have a devastating impact on retirement
benefits for retirees and survivors and jeopardizes the future value of
military career benefits, while also adversely affecting recruitment,
retention and our national security.
